Blinking back tears, his face etched with grief, the Prince of Wales bade an emotional final farewell to the Duke of Edinburgh as he led a procession behind his father’s coffin for the Duke’s final journey from Windsor Castle to St George’s Chapel, where he was laid to rest.
Prince Philip, who died peacefully on 9 April 2021, aged 99, fulfilled one of his last wishes, too – being driven not in a royal hearse but on the back of a green custom-made Land Rover Defender that he had designed himself.
