1941 NANNY BAIT
SNAPSHOT

PRESS ASSOCIATION
Either nannies during World War II took extreme precautions to protect their charges, or something else is going on here. The pistol-packing woman is actually a man – all maid up, if you will – taking part in a drill by the Scottish Command home guards to test a soldier’s readiness when confronted by a ‘fifth columnist’. Under the threat of German invasion, there was a fear in Britain of homegrown enemies, the fifth column, subversively sabotaging the military effort. How they would bring down the nation pushing prams is anyone’s guess. Still, best to be prepared.
