Donald Trump’s return to the White House has already sent ripples through global trade. One of his headline-grabbing moves? A 10% base line tariff slapped on all goods entering the US – including those from the UK. Cue Scottish Tory MSP Murdo Fraser, ever keen to score a political point, who rushed to social media to say – paraphrasing here – that thankfully the UK is out of the EU, and “only” faces a 10% tariff, implying we’ve dodged a bullet compared to our European neighbours.
