WORLD 400m champion Wayde van Niekerk has ruled out the possibility of running the 100m or 200m at the Rio Olympics.
Van Niekerk became the first athlete in history this year to run each of the 100m, 200m and 400m in sub-10, sub-20 and sub-44 seconds, leading to speculation that he may look to focus on adding one of the shorter sprints to his Olympic schedule as he targets winning 400m gold.
“The 100 and 200 are what I’ve always loved,” said Van Niekerk.
