HOLT AND REED REPEAT

JUNE 1

PENSHAW HILL 3

Penshaw Monument, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear

DESPITE struggling with an Achilles injury, Nathan Reed repeated his 2015 victory in the cold windy conditions, Les Venmore reports.

Reed started cautiously as Steve Rankin gained the “prime” prize for getting to the Monument first for the third successive year.

Reed at this stage was fifth and, as Rankin faded, he shadowed teenagers Alex Brown and Kieran Walker. Reed waited until the final sharp rise to kick for victory, crossing the finish line five seconds ahead of Brown with Walker another 16 seconds adrit in third.

Emma Holt retained her title. She led all the way but was shadowed in the early stages by Sarah Wilkinson.

Holt crossed the line in 12th place overall, 21 seconds ahead of Wilkinson.
