Best known for fronting ITV’s Saturday Morning, this issue’s guest editor, chef James Martin, has long used his platform on primetime TV to proudly advocate for eating game. Having grown up on the Castle Howard estate, James learnt to work gundogs as a young boy, and his passion for picking-up continues to this day.

In this issue, the 50-year-old Yorkshireman also talks about his love of fly fishing, and we hear from former F1 boss Ross Brawn, the passionate angler who first introduced him to the sport. We also herald the beginning of the grouse season, with a visit to the Grimersta estate on the Isle of Lewis, and take a moment to consider carefully both sides of the upland conservation and land management debate.

Also in this issue, Matt Harris goes to some remote local rivers in northern Argentina in pursuit of the bruising dorado; James Percy heads to the Borders in search of sea trout; and Simon K. Barr joins Steve Hornady in Pakistan on a markhor hunt to investigate how trophy hunting has saved this treasured species from extinction.

And, of course, this issue would not be complete without a selection of delicious game recipes from chef James Martin himself. With this and much more besides, we hope you enjoy this issue of Fieldsports Journal.
