Our April 2018 issue of Motorcycle Mojo features the all-new 2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT. Costa Mouzouris was at the international press launch in Austin, Texas and while sub-zero temperatures and freezing rain did hamper the ride somewhat, the bike did offer a good indication of just how well protected the rider is from the elements. We’re predicting this new Wing will be one of the most important motorcycle releases of the year. In January of this year, the Ehret Vincent Black Lightning went under the gavel at Bonhams motorcycle auction in Las Vegas and broke the record for a vintage motorcycle, selling at close to one million U.S. dollars. In order to understand that dollar figure one must understand a bit about the history of the Black Lightning and one of the most famous engines in motorcycle history. Alan Cathcart reports on the Ehret Black Lightning and sheds some light on how this motorcycle commanded the price it did.
