Retro Cars  |  No.70 Modified Classics
This month we were able to get out on circuit for the first time in 2014 at the Retro Cars Spring Track Day at Brands Hatch. It was pretty greasy on the Indy circuit and there were a few offs but all in all a great time was had by all. We’re looking to add a few more dates and venues to
our trackday calendar in 2014 so keep your eyes peeled on these pages and on our Facebook posts (see bottom of this page) for further details.
My own track weapon for the day was the Porsche 944 that I share custody of with a mate. It started out so well with a trip down to the Kent circuit the night before all going without a hitch (well apart from the speedo breaking again!). An early start saw us excitedly enter the drivers’ briefing and we were eager to get stuck in. A few gentle laps were completed to get the tyres up to temperature and to ‘feel’ the conditions. The first ‘hot lap’ revealed how little grip there was, as a slightly ambitious entry to Graham Hill Bend left the Porsche’s tail hanging well out! Great fun but a little unnerving at such low speeds… It didn’t matter as within about 10 laps the brake pedal began juddering severely and we retired to the pits.
