MUST-SEE, WHY?
“This is a project that we’ve had going for a while at Disney Animation Studios,” says producer Osnat Shurer. “It’s evolved and evolved.” A few elements have endured, such as a divided land and a magical dragon. “And it always had a really strong, cool, badass protagonist.” That protagonist is of course Raya (Kelly Marie Tran). She must track down the last dragon, Sisu (Awkwafina), to restore balance when an evil force reemerges to threaten the world. “It’s the theme of trust in the broken world,” says director Don Hall. “How do you trust when the world is broken? That became sort of the galvanising idea.”
