My passion for animal rights began when I discovered cosmetic animal testing — I had been living in a little bubble up until that point. Discovering that humans can inflict that kind of suffering on an animal shocked me, and I couldn’t understand why it was allowed. I immediately started researching cruelty-free alternatives. Through this research, I stumbled across other awful truths about the meat industry that led me to become a vegetarian.
I was never much of a cook and I didn’t eat very well. I had some stomach issues that were bringing me down and making me uncomfortable. I had had them for years and was always on medication to mask the symptoms. In 2015, as a vegetarian who hadn’t yet discovered the issues within the dairy and egg industries, I decided to take my health in to my own hands and I swapped my vegetarian diet for an entirely plant-based one. Within three months of eating beans, veggies, nuts, seeds, grains and the most colourful, flavoursome dishes I’d ever had, I was able to come off of the medication I had been on for five years — I felt amazing! It was only after I became a vegan, that I researched the dairy and egg industries and found out how terrible they are. This led to me desperately wanting to share what I had learnt with as many people as possible.
