EVEN IN THE HEAT OF A SUMMER MARATHON, VIEWS OF MONT ST MICHEL OFFER CALM CONTEMPLATION

MONT ST MICHEL MARATHON
When you’re flying to a race that claims to be in the top 10 of the most beautiful marathons in the world, you feel excited and intrigued. Everyone knows of Mont St Michel in France, but I wondered what it would offer as a race experience.
I was apprehensive though; temperatures had reached 32°C two days before the race. It was going to be a scorcher!
This isn’t your big city marathon; there are no crowds and, with about 5,000 runners taking part in the race weekend (10K, half-marathon, full and ultra), there was a relaxed, easy-going atmosphere.
The obligatory Mont St Michel selfie!
I opted for the marathon, though I wasn’t planning to ‘race’. I wanted to enjoy an easy pace up to halfway, then see how far I got before I used a walk/jog strategy to finish. I knew in the heat this was the most practical way for me to finish the race. Even though I had run Paris Marathon at the beginning of April, I hadn’t done much long-distance running since, so the goal was to complete the event.
