I’ve made the most of my cottage living room

Sam Watts used winter pastels and textured fabrics to bring character to her home
A peg rail stretched from wall to wall gives immediate country charm and allows Sam to display a mix of photos and accessories

Good idea!

A peg rail across one wall makes a room look bigger and is a great alternative to pictures nailed to a wall.

Samantha Watts, 28, partner Matthew, 28, and daughter Farrah, three, moved to their pretty cottage home in Little Chalfont in 2015. ‘The house was structurally fine but every room needed something doing to make it look good and feel more homely,’ explains Sam. ‘There were plenty of rustic features so it felt like it should have a traditional country style. The living room is a nice size and I loved the open fireplace but other than that it was characterless. The chimney breast was covered in dark brown suede-effect paint that was horrible and although the wooden floor looked fine when we viewed the house, once we moved in and looked more closely we found it was scratched and needed work. I knew with a little thought we could turn the room into a really pretty and cosy space,’ smiles Sam.
