TOP TIP
Harvest your first early apples such as 'Discovery' or 'Beauty of Bath'. These don't store well, so enjoy them fresh, straight from the tree.

MUDS' DAY OUT
The folks at Easton Walled Gardens near Grantham once again generously allowed the Mudketeers the run of their lovely grounds for making videos for the Kitchen Garden YouTube Channel. This is always lovely and the whole team enjoy spending time in such a beautiful setting. They've seen how parts of the garden have evolved and picked up plenty of ideas for their own plots.
One border in particular caught their eye as it showed how ornamentals and vegetable crops can be planted together to complement each other. In this border are ornamental peas trained over a graceful low dome with lettuces of various colours, leeks, kale, carrots with their frothy foliage and some summer bedding to edge the display. (Easton is famous for its sweet peas and holds a sweet pea week during July each year.)
