YORK ACORN, who a couple of months ago were viewed as certainties for relegation, could yet pull off the great escape act.
The Thanet Road outfit have, following Saturday’s 34-24 victory over reigning champions THATTO HEATH, won five of the last seven fixtures and, although still in the drop zone, are only a point shy of Rochdale Mayfield and Pilkington Recs, with two games remaining.
Acorn could survive after inflicting a fourth successive defeat on the Crusaders, who have tumbled to fifth in the table.
Although Thatto took the lead on eight minutes through Jamie Tracey, with Connor Pilling landing the first of his four goals, Acorn were never again behind once Matt Chilton responded on 24 minutes, Ant Chilton adding the extras on his way to five goals from six attempts.
