TRINITY HAVE SAFETY IN GRASP
WAKEFIELD TRINITY 30 WIGAN WARRIORS 12
CALLUM WALKER
Be Well Support Stadium, Sunday
WOW! That’s the only word to describe this result as Wakefield, led by the irrepressible Jacob Miller, Mason Lino and Jai Whitbread, outmatched and outmuscled the Warriors, who simply had no reply in the stifling heat.
If you hadn’t looked at the Super League table before this game, you would have been forgiven for thinking that it was Wakefield near the top and Wigan languishing near the bottom – Trinity were that good.
Heading into the fixture, Liam Hood dropped out for Wakefield as Brad Walker returned, whilst Liam Farrell missed out again for Wigan following a calf injury, but Brad O’Neill came back from suspension.
Morgan Smithies was a late withdrawal for the Warriors with a calf issue and Joe Shorrocks came in.
As it stood before the game, Trinity were just two points above bottom side Toulouse, whilst Wigan were hunting down St Helens in first.
And it was the Warriors that began the brighter of the two sides as Bevan French went close from a Harry Smith kick, but Wakefield went up the other end and had the first try chalked off for obstruction after Miller cantered through a huge gap.
