WORLD CUP COUNTDOWN 9. GREECE
This week League Express continues its countdown to the Rugby League World Cup, with a week-by-week focus on the competing nations in all three tournaments – men’s, women’s and wheelchair. Each week we will examine a nation’s fixtures, its prior World Cup record, its coaching team and the playing pool available. Having focused on Papua New Guinea last week, we now turn the spotlight on Greece, who are excitedly awaiting a World Cup debut and are among England’s group rivals.
THE COACHING TEAM
Steve Georgallis
(above),
assistant coach to Todd Payten at North Queensland Cowboys, has been with Greece all the way.
Appointed when the national team was created in 2003, the 54-yearold, who turned out at stand-off in the Titans’ first Rugby League International Federation-sanctioned game, against Serbia in Sydney that year, is still going strong.
