Paint along with LP
Painting project
Part 1 Paul Clarkuses a photograph of Scotney Castle as inspiration for his two-part project from a photograph. This month, be inspired by line and wash
Figure 1 Some of the lines made with a variety of drawing tools. Don’t forget to try the humble garden twig, too!
Learning objectives
■ First steps with line and wash
■ Experiment with different tools
■ Through a little exploration, find unexpected subjects to paint
Figure 2 Doorway of St. Edward’s Church, Stow-on-the-Wold, line and wash on Bockingford Hot-pressed paper, 12x9in. (30.5x23cm). Here I drew the scene using a black Lumocolor (fine) marker then added watercolour.
TOP TIP
Always remember that whenever you are viewing a subject, either from a photograph or in real life, what you see is just there as a guide. It’s all too easy to find yourself trying to copy it exactly, which can easily lead to frustration. Your own artistic interpretation is far more important.
