I f you’re new to Linux, the first thing to understand is that, unlike Windows or Mac OS, Linux isn’t a single homogeneous operating system. It consists of multiple distributions, or distros, each sharing the Linux kernel but also developing their own building blocks, some of which are unique while others are freely shared between them. Think of Linux as the roots of a tree, with a single trunk that branches off in multiple directions with offshoots sprouting everywhere, all of which represent different distros.
