Microsoft Pluton causes concern
What exactly is Microsoft Pluton, and should we be worried?
While Microsoft Pluton was announced back in 2020, it’s only now that more details are emerging about what the hardware security solution designed to be built into CPUs and SoC (System on Chip) devices could mean for users. In particular, those who want to install open-source operating systems instead of Microsoft’s Windows software.
There’s concern and cynicism over Microsoft’s plans, and while not all of it may be warranted, we can understand people’s misgivings. After all, the company hasn’t had a brilliant history with securing software at a hardware level, with previous attempts to stop malicious code running during bootup also being accused of blocking other operating systems, such as Linux, from being installed at all.
