ROAD TRIPS
For all-weather campers: SCOTLAND
The North Coast 500 cuts a 516-mile course through the Highlands, linking crumbling castles, fishing towns and distilleries. It incorporates the Bealach na Bà pass – the highest highway in Scotland – and passes John o’ Groats, the most northerly point in mainland Britain. Bring your swimmers in case of good weather: there are beautiful beaches. Most campers start and end their trip in Inverness, whose cosy pubs, and castle bookend the journey nicely.
