Apple has made several announcements about music quality, including Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos over the last few months, and it’s all getting a little confusing. In a nutshell, Apple Music on the most recent versions of macOS, iOS and iPadOS now allows you to to play tracks that have been encoded in Dolby Atmos format. While AirPods (including AirPods Pro and AirPods Max) and supported Beats headphones equipped with Apple’s H1 or W1 chips can be set to play Dolby Atmos tracks automatically. Dolby Atmos will also work on most other headphones – although you’ll need to activate the feature in those instances manually. In addition, most iPhones, iPads and Macs made since 2018 include automatic support for Dolby Atmos.
