The original online Apple Store was unveiled on 10 November, 1997, alongside the PowerPC G3 chip, Power Mac G3 and PowerBook G3. That’s nearly four years before the first physical store opened its doors. Not only did it give you a place online where you could buy products directly from Apple, that the company itself controlled, it played a key role in its revival after Steve Jobs’ return.
