DEAD LORD
Never Surrender
CENTURY MEDIA
Another joyous and exhilarating classic hard rock Swedish feast
It wasn’t just the overabundant Thin Lizzy references but the immediacy and instant feelgood, pure and unaltered classic hard rock sound that really turned Dead Lord’s debut, Goodbye Repentance, into an underground sensation back in 2013. Now four albums in, they haven’t lost an ounce of their instant appeal. Phil Lynott’s phantom says hello right from the very beginning with the opening salvo, Distance Over Time, and comes back with the slacker anthem that is Messin’ Up, while they give Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons a good reminder on how joyous they sounded back in ’75 with Evil Always Wins. They’re well-assisted by producer, sometime Death Breath collaborator and retro-rocker in his own right, Robert Pehrsson, who’s made sure they stick to a strict classic rock frame without stripping them of their natural class. This could well be the no-frills, listen-to-on-vinyl soundtrack of your summer.
