HOLY ROAR
Texan Slowdive-worshippers some groove to their gaze
The influence of early 90s shoegaze on the metal world over the last decade has been massive, and Narrow Head clearly aren’t shy about their love of Slowdive, Swervedriver and a host of other dreamy luminaries. There’s not much new or unique being brought to the sound of overdriven guitars and lush, slacker melodies from the band, so a lot will depend on just how invested you are in this particular genre. But, if you long for the sound of 90s indie, there’s plenty you’ll adore, particularly when the Texans give a bit of Helmet-esque groove to their sound on the molten bass of Night Tryst. For an album whose influences are so explicit, 12th House Rock still manages to feel vibrant, breathing life into an established sound.
