Swedish melodic death metallers finally reach boiling point
Despite being 20 years in, Nonexist haven’t truly come into being until now. Since taking over vocal duties in 2015, founder Johan Reinholdz has whipped a ragtag mix of death/thrash and melodic DM elements into something truly commanding. Charting the evolution across two EPs (the latter of which is incorporated wholesale here), Nonexist have emerged as a band transformed, their fourth record a crash course in the history of continental extremity - albeit largely centred on the Scandinavian peninsula. This is particularly evident in the guest musicians, Merciless vocalist Rogga Petersson, Deathening’s Kalle Nimhagen and Mikael Stanne/Chris Amott of Dark Tranquillity each lending a flavour of their own band to the melting pot without diluting the core broth.
