CONSIDERING MUTOID MAN crammed two full-lengths, an EP and a relentless touring schedule while members juggled other bands and projects into their first five years of existence, the six years since 2017’s War Moans has seemed much longer. Indeed, there was the little matter of acclimating a new bassist – High On Fire’s Jeff Matz joins guitarist/vocalist Cave In’s Stephen Brodsky and Converge drummer Ben Koller – to the band’s fiery mélange of punk energy, math metal intricacy and prodigious prog wired around a dynamic spectrum of jittery hellazapoppin’ hardcore, thunderous tribal twang and sewage sludge rumbling.
