My visitto the Warley exhibition on the opening Saturday was something of an experiment – my first major ‘excursion’ since my prostate cancer treatment. For some months after radiotherapy there’s the possibility of lingering side effects, most of which would be either inconvenient or downright embarrassing in a public place.
I’d had plenty of incident-free minor outings, so I was ready to try something more.
There was an incentive, too. I wanted conversation – to meet people and chat in order to reinvigorate my enthusiasm for the hobby, enthusiasm being one of the emotions sapped by the effect of a year of treatment. In that regard I’d had a message from Greg Johnson, a Model Rail reader who was visiting the Warley show from the USA, and who wanted to meet me.
