Hit the sweet spot
Iam an avid reader and subscriber to N-Photo. However, I have a point to make about your articles on lenses. The issue is about the use of the best aperture for most subjects. I recently had a one-to-one Zoom meeting with a professional video and stills photographer of considerable reputation. He went through my various lenses and produced for me test data, which I have never seen before, in a form that one can store on one’s phone as a reference to be used at any given time. He also suggested writing this information down and taping it onto the inside of the lens cap for quick reference.
The data shows the sharpest image at any given aperture for the centre to the edge; the example I’m providing is for my Nikon 35mm f/1.8 wide prime, but we also did the same for my and 50mm f/1.8, as well as my telephoto and wide-angle zooms. It seems that one of the driving factors to use the widest available aperture of a lens is because of the bokeh produced, but this does not always give the sharpest photograph.
