When shooting on a tripod we like to refine our composition using Live View on our Nikon’s rear LCD screen. Place your autofocus point directly over your subject and half-press the shutter to lock focus. We’d recommend zooming in to check the focus is pin-sharp as super-wide apertures are particularly unforgiving, since the area of focus is so slim. If your lens keeps hunting, try focusing manually. If you still can’t lock focus, you’ve probably strayed beyond your lens’s minimum focus distance and will need to move your prop away from your camera, or move your tripod further back.
