Space rockers Hawkwind and iconic guitar legend Johnny Marr lead the next eclectic wave of acts announced for Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2019. Others joining them at the Beauly-based festival from August 1 to 3 include Mercury Prize-nominated rock band the Coral, Highland folk singer Julie Fowlis and DIY artist Dodie.
This year sees Hawkwind celebrate their 50th anniversary with a huge tour, taking in venues such as London’s Royal Albert Hall, and now closing the Hot House stage on the Thursday night at Belladrum. the band will join pop star Jess Glynne and Scottish singer- songwriter Lewis Capaldi, who came to fame last year, as some of the main headliners for the weekend. the Tartan Heart music and arts festival, which takes place on Belladrum estate in Beauly, Inverness, attracts thousands of music lovers to the Highlands every year. Belladrum has sold out in advance every year since 2008 and it is expected that 2019 will be no ditherent. With a wide variety of performances ranging from indie rock to Highland folk, there will certainly be something for everyone to enjoy.
Johnny Marr is widely regarded as one of the most infiuential guitarists of his generation, forming the Smiths when he was just 18 years old. He will be arriving fresh off his USA Comet Tour, which is selling out fast. And for those looking to absorb local culture, North Uist folk singer Julie Fowlis will impress with her stunning voice, and her unique take on bringing Scottish Gaelic culture into something contemporary. Belladrum has built up a reputation as a family-friendly festival over the past decade. there will, as always, be a designated area specifically for family camping.
