Bathers braved icy waters at Oban’s annual New Year’s Day dip - or ‘loony dook’ - by jumping into the freezing Firth of Lorn from Oban Sailing Club. Among them was Grant Addison, whose expression speaks volumes about the temperature of the water. Loony dooks are also held in the Firth of Forth at North Berwick, Kirkcaldy and South Queensferry, where the tradition was devised 30 years ago as a drastic hangover cure.
