Hugh Smith’s letter from Islay

Remembering former ministers

CHURCH of Scotland congregations on the island were saddened to learn of the death on December 19 last year of former local minister, the Rev Dr Frank S Gibson. He was 89 years of age and died in Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital.

A native of Motherwell, he studied accountancy and law at Glasgow University and served on the mission field before entering the Church of Scotland ministry. He was inducted in 1963 into his first charge at Kildalton and Oa which went on to be eventually linked with Kilmeny parish.
