As a practicing nurse, with experience in both Cardiology and A&E for six years prior to starting my yoga teacher training, I found the stresses of 12-hour shifts (including nights and weekends) taking their toll. I began practicing yoga seriously in 2 008 to find some down time and ‘realign’ myself both physically and mentally.
The more I practiced on my yoga mat, on my days off, the more I realised those skills were an asset to my work. I discovered those few minutes waiting for an ABG result could be spent slowing down my breath, finding focus back in the present. This allowed the craziness of the workplace to be put on pause…even if only for a few moments before things kicked-off again.
