A while ago a kind reader asked if anyone played Rheinberger any more – once a staple on English programmes. This prompted OR to ask the great authority on German Romantic music, Professor Graham Barber, to write an article on this prolific composer. Graham’s essay, among his discussions, includes some important glimpses into Rheinberger’s personal life. Dr Paul Stubbings ponders the idea of the English Stylus phantasticus, completing a trio of essays on this European Baroque phenomenon. OR talks to the amazing Dr Gordon Stewart about his long career and his thoughts about how the organ world has altered. OR also speaks to Matthew Searles at Buckfast Abbey about the Catholic recording label Ad Fontes. And William Whitehead, currently Associate Organist of Lincoln's Inn, gives readers a magnificent introduction to the growth and experience of compiling the music for Bach’s planned but never completed Orgel-Büchlein.
