A solid Android phone with few flaws, but unlike the Xiaomi 15 Ultra it fails to stand out from the crowd

Last month we were impressed by Xiaomi’s new flagship phone, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra (see issue 368, p74). Now comes the regular Xiaomi 15, offering a similar feel and features for a lower price.
It starts at £899 for 256GB of storage, while the larger 512GB option comes in at £999. That’s more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy S25 (see issue 367, p70), which costs £859 for 256GB and £959 for 512GB, but it’s telling that the iPhone 16 (see issue 363, p68) costs £799 for 128GB, £899 for 256GB and an intake-ofbreath-worthy £1,099 for 512GB.
Xiaomi’s display is a fraction larger at 6.4in, and this AMOLED panel packs a 1,200 x 2,670 resolution and dynamic 120Hz refresh rate.
Xiaomi claims a brightness of up to 3,200cd/m2 , and support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision too, but what matters is that in use it looks great.
