he Honor Pad V9 makes an appealing Android-based alternative to the standard iPad. It offers comparable hardware specs along with clever built-in software features – and while it’s more expensive than the cheapest model of Apple’s tablet, it comes with twice as much storage. Even better, the £400 price includes a flip cover and stylus, both pricey extras for its rival. It’s worth mentioning, though, that there’s only one model available, with no option for additional storage or cellular connectivity.
The V9’s design doesn’t shake up the tablet world, nor the colour options of grey and white, but the tablet looks smart with classy rounded edges. A USB-C port sits on the right-hand side with a front camera along the long edge, suitable for video calls. At 6.1mm thick and weighing 475g, it’s nicely portable: I found it easy to hold for long enough to watch an entire film in bed. Just be warned that the Honor Pad V9 doesn’t have an IP rating against dust or water ingress.
