T his old chestnut of a focusing method enables you to get the required ‘zone’ of a scene reasonably sharp by manually focusing ahead of time. It’s easiest to apply when using manual-focus lenses like the Samyang on test, which features a focus distance scale and a number of DoF markers. You turn the focus ring until the preferred minimum and maximum focus distances governed by the DoF for a given aperture match up with the relevant markers.
