AS WELL as vibrant sunset images the flash painting technique also works very well for bold black and whites. What’s more, by removing the colour we don’t need to worry about any colour temperature mismatches between our flash and the ambient light. One of the simplest ways to create a bold black and white landscape is with the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop. After combining your set of flash-lit frames, make a merged copy of all the layers with the keyboard shortcut Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E then go to Filter>Camera Raw Filter. Go to the Profile Browser and hover over the different black and white presets to see which works for your image, or fine-tune the conversion with the B&W Mixer panel, then finish by boosting the contrast.
