Videographers are familiar with the concept of shooting images with a flat profile. Shooting in Log mode produces video files that preserve a greater range of tones, meaning there is more scope for colour grading later. The same approach can apply to still images. We already ETTR (expose to the right), which is a first step in this process as it captures a greater range of detail and colour information.
