What’s your story: when and why you did you go plant-based?
I struggled with disordered eating for over 10 years in my teens and early twenties. Eventually I decided that I was over feeling miserable and tired all of the time. I started to experiment with real, whole foods, instead of the processed, low-calorie diet foods I had been living off of. I felt so energised and healthy through eating plant-based, and that motivated me to keep treating my body well. Along with going to therapy, these new dietary changes helped me realise I couldn’t go back to my previous calorie-counting, food-obsessed ways. So I stuck with it, even though kicking my old demons was hard. I started my blog in 2008 and continued experimenting with a plant-based diet, sharing my love of this new way of eating online. Around the same time, I learned more about factory farming and my life-long love for animals took over; it became more than just a diet for me. Transitioning to a plantbased lifestyle was a very gradual process and not something I set out to do. I just wanted to get my feet wet and explore some recipes I found online. As it turned out, I fell in love with how good I felt and how delicious the recipes were that I was creating. The rest is history!
