WEELEY GREAT MEMORIES
I’m an old-age pensioner who’s been there and seen the original prog vanguard: ELP, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, etc, but I have never seen anything in print in mags, such as yours, about the Weeley Festival in 1971. It was probably the greatest festival this country has never seen, with the likes of Colosseum, King Crimson, Curved Air, Juicy Lucy, Van der Graaf Generator, Caravan, Quintessence, Barclay James Harvest, Stray, Caravan, The Faces, Rory Gallagher, Groundhogs to name but a few. To my knowledge no media was released on the event, unlike the Isle of Wight, etc. It would be nice to see such an article appear with people’s memories of the event.
Also I’ve never seen an article on groups such as Seventh Wave, Spring and Tonton Macoute. The same names appear in your mag on a regular basis regardless whether they have new music being released or not. I defy anyone to listen to Things To Come by Seventh Wave and not say this isn’t prog or Tonton Macoute with its lush organ, vibes, tenor sax, flute etc. on their one and only release. So how about it?
