As time passes, in the mainstream the legend of 10cc is reduced to but one record, I’m Not In Love. For all those who adored it at the time – it still sounds like the world sweetly stopping to draw breath – few were truly aware of the pedigree of the performers in the group; none more so than the song’s co-writer, Graham Gouldman, who had, by that time, a little under a decade into his career, written or co-written Bus Stop for The Hollies, For Your Love for The Yardbirds and No Milk Today for Herman’s Hermits. Any of these alone would be enough for Gouldman to build a career. However, the best was still to come –the run of 10cc songs that established him and writing partner Eric Stewart, briefly but brightly, as 70s successors to Lennon and McCartney.
