Australian Railway History  |  Aug-15
The August issue of Australian Railway History is devoted to the theme of ‘Railway Journeys’. Features include David Moyle’s account of a 1895 trip from Strathfield to by a young woman. It was her first train journey and she recorded her experience in great detail.
Trevor Edmonds describes the first ‘School-Girls Railway Cruise’ operated by the NSW Railways in 1933 and the editor has included his memories of a journey on a pick-up goods train from Orange to Dubbo in September 1950.
There are two short articles on trips on the narrow gauge Maree Mixed and The Ghan trains between Port Augusta and Alice Springs; while the issue rounds off with a presentation on the railway photographs available through the University of Newcastle Library’s Archives.
