Coffee with olive oil, anyone?

Starbucks has launched a line of olive oil-infused drinks in Italy, with the company hoping that the move will be better received in the country than the brand’s original arrival – some Italians famously called for a boycott of the coffee chain when it announced plans to open its first Italian store in 2018, but it now has 20 branches across the peninsula. Starbucks’ chief executive Howard Schultz first had the idea for the ‘Oleato’ range during a trip to Sicily, where he began taking a spoonful of extra-virgin olive oil with his morning coffee, then started to experiment by mixing the two together. He claims that the “unexpected, velvety, buttery flavour… enhances the coffee and lingers beautifully on the palate”. The range will be rolled out in other locations across the globe over the coming months.
