The rosé wines of Italy are many and varied, and their renaissance continues to evolve, with many fine quality bottles reaching a wider market. They are a perennial favourite here at Italia! and although we’ve been away for a while, we couldn’t let the chance pass by to take a look of some of this year’s offerings. All rosé wines are made with red grape varieties – the fruit being pressed to remove the juice before leaving it to rest on the skins, but only for a matter of hours. The juice picks up the hue and a hint of flavour from the must, though it’s never more than that: a suggestion of what the red grapes have to offer. It’s the careful maintenance of that production process that makes or breaks a rosé wine: the winemaker needs a delicate touch and as much skill for rosé as he does producing a top-flight red or white wine.
Versatile rosé is perfectly suited for year-round drinking – not just under a blue sky!
