Fort William’s Belford Hospital looks set to lose one of its most experienced doctors after he appeared in court for sentencing on a second drink driving off ence.
Consultant anaesthetist Dr Alexander Kollar has worked at the Belford for more than 12 years, but defence agent Hamish Melrose told the court his client was now considering retiring and returning to his native Czech Republic.
Kollar, 59, of Glasdrum Road, Fort William, had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to driving his car in Grange Road, Lundavra Road, Argyll Terrace and elsewhere in the town on September 30 this year with a breath alcohol reading of 117mgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath. The legal limit is 22mgs.
