RESPONDING to the Government’s Integrated Rail Plan, the Rail Freight Group (RFG) has welcomed plans to upgrade the trans-Pennine route via Huddersfield for container traffic and for the electrification of the route, along with the Midland Main Line between Market Harborough and Sheffield.
It warns, however, that there could be potential for bottlenecks or reduced freight capacity where it is planned for HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail to share existing infrastructure.
