Console development kits are always an expensive purchase, so it makes sense that companies would seek to offer their own solutions in the hope of generating money from cash‐strapped developers. Hong Kong’s Bung Enterprises was well‐known for that, and it was first to market with the Doctor V64. The large, white device plugged into the expansion port on the underside of the N64, with an accompanying cartridge adapter to connect official cartridges for the use of their lockout chips. From there, it was possible to boot game data from the CD-ROM drive.
