The Atari brand has been synonymous with gaming since the early Seventies, so it’s somewhat fitting that a new compilation is on the way.
Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection is no ordinary compilation however, as it not only features an astonishing 90 games, but will also cover most of Atari’s history, in a similar style to the excellent Rare Replay. The collection is being overseen by Digital Eclipse, a company that, along with M2, is one of the finest curators of classic games in the business.
According to Donald Louie, a producer at Atari, Digital Eclipse was “the obvious choice” for the prestigious project. “They are known for retro compilations, they have the technical skills to handle complex emulation, and they have an obvious affection for the Atari brand,” he tells us. “Having the right partner was very important to us. If you look at the work they did on the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection and Blizzard Arcade Collection, you can see that they had great care and respect for the source material.”
