Twentyyears ago, the Xbox was about to enter its first European holiday season after a tumultuous launch. With that in mind, we decided to get together and share our memories of the machine that launched Microsoft’s ambitions in the home-console scene.
NICK
What did you think of Microsoft’s chances in the console market, when you first heard about the Xbox?
DARRAN
I think I was initially sceptical because I’d always considered it to be PC-focussed. The more I read, the more I began to realise Microsoft was throwing everything it could to ensure it would be a success.
TIM
It was a bold step to enter the market considering the previous focus on PCs, so I was a bit sceptical… although it seems to have paid off now though.
DARRAN
Yeah, you could certainly argue Microsoft has been playing the long game. Unless of course you’re a Nintendo or PlayStation owner…
